Sunshine Kids Therapy provides Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy services for infants, children, and young adults (birth- age 21) in Valencia County. We provide evaluations, one-on-one treatment sessions, and family education- all in a fun, child-centered environment. Our therapists work hard to meet your child where they are at and challenge them to grow into the unique individuals they are created to be.
Speech and Language Therapy
The main goal of speech therapy is to improve a child’s communication. A speech disorder may be present when a child is unable to produce speech sounds correctly or fluently. A language disorder may be present if a child has difficulty understanding others or sharing their own thoughts or feelings. If you have concerns for your child in any of these areas, he/she may benefit from a speech and/or language evaluation.
The goal of physical therapy is to improve a child’s ability to move and interact with their environment. Your child may benefit from physical therapy if you have concerns with: developmental milestones (rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, jumping, climbing), strength, balance, coordination, motor planning, gait, posture, or endurance.
The goal of Occupational Therapy is to improve a child’s participation by working on fine motor, sensory motor, and visual motor skills. Your child may benefit from Occupational Therapy if they demonstrate difficulty with: using a pencil or scissors, coloring, writing, letter or number formation, manipulating toys and puzzles, fine motor games (Itsy Bitsy Spider), using zippers, buttons, shoelaces, coordinating both sides of the body, ball skills, visual tracking, copying shapes or letter, shows differences in his/her sensory processing, play skills, and/or focusing on tasks.
Sunshine Kids Therapy is owned by Katie Jiron, PT, DPT. After graduating from Belen High School, Katie attended the University of New Mexico where she received her Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy in 2014. She has since been working in Valencia County focusing on pediatrics. During that time, she met many families and children who would benefit from a clinic closer to home which led her to open Sunshine Kids Therapy. The clinic has since added 5 more therapists and can now provide local physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy. Katie is married to Eric and they have four young children. She enjoys playing, traveling, and being outdoors.
